Special Economic Zones
A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a designated area in which manufacturing or distribution activities can be conducted on preferential terms. SEZ is a place where a company can start its activity on fully developed site and obtains exemptions from property tax.
Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were created to:
- accelerate the economic growth of Polish regions,
- promote development and use of the most modern technological solutions in the Polish economy,
- increase the competitiveness of products and services,
- find productive new uses for post-industrial property and infrastructure,
- encourage creation of new jobs. (Source: PAIiZ)
There are 14 Special Economic Zones in Poland. The management of each zone issues permits to do business in the given SEZ and helps in the investment process, for example by facilitating contacts with local authorities or central administration in such areas as purchase of land and others.
Incentives available in Special Economic Zones
In SEZ a company can receive the following incentives:
- exemption from corporate income tax (CIT) or personal income tax (PIT),
- fully developed land and competitive price of land,
- free assistance with all formalities related to the intended investment,
- exemptions from real estate tax.
In order to take advantage of these favourable terms, the investment should be of at least EUR 100,000 and should last for at least five years.
